Lizzy Albright, a red-headed, freckle-faced girl from Overland Park, Kansas, is celebrating her tenth birthday on Christmas Eve 1964. An impending winter storm is approaching as Lizzy and her family travel to Cordelia, Kansas, where they plan to spend the holidays with Granny in the McHale family mansion.

An imaginative young girl, an antique quilt, a goose named Gretta, and a cursed kingdom combine as the foundation for a fantastic fantasy filled with surprise, wonderment, betrayal, bravery, mystery, and intrigue. The only thing to expect is the unexpected because—not everything is as it seems.

From an 11 year old test reader (censored due to spoilers)-
"I thought the book was great! I loved McDoogle’s accent throughout, and how he always brought up tomfoolery. The way the book ended was incredible, with the (spoiler), the (spoiler), and the attic window! Calixta was a wonderful antagonist, with her backstory, her (spoiler), and her (another spoiler). I loved the plot twist that showed that (character) was the true (spoiler), not (different character). I also was taken by surprise to learn that (plot twist).
~Kellan Scott, 11 years old, Tennessee
